Margaret J. Gisske
Oct. 20, 1922-Dec. 28, 2016
Margaret J. Gisske was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Memphis, Tennessee, and passed away peacefully Dec. 28, 2016, in Chico at age 94. She is survived by her husband Hugo and daughter Teresa, three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Carla Bower, her grandson Scott Nelson and her six siblings and their spouses. Margaret's family moved to rural Arkansas during the Great Depression. During WWII she trained and worked in data processing in Washington and Memphis. She and Hugo met and married in 1943 and celebrated their 73rd anniversary in 2016. Margaret and Hugo traveled the world, including trips down the Amazon, rafting the Colorado and her favorite -- the Taj Mahal. Above all, she was a wife, mother and homemaker. A Southern Belle at her core, Margaret loved to entertain groups of family, friends and neighbors, especially for holidays. She enjoyed painting and sewing and made nearly all her own and her girls' clothing. She worked several years for Bank of America at Loyola Corners and enjoyed providing the local voter polling site for decades. Margaret supported her children's and grandchildren's interests and ensured their talents were developed. Her home was a hub for play and gatherings. She led Girl Scouts and Blue Bird troops and helped support youth theater. Maintaining that delicate work-life balance, she was also instrumental in the operations of her husband's business, Pyramid Painting, Inc. The family is especially grateful to the staff at Prestige Assisted Living, to her care companions and to Paradise Hospice. No services are planned at this time.
