Mountain View, California
Helen Marie Ogaz passed away at 100 years of age. Born August 18, 1920 in Albuquerque New Mexico as the fifteenth child of Maximo and Guadalupe Sanchez. She was baptized at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church and later attended the adjacent parish school. Both the school and the Church were located in Old Town Square, Albuquerque. She had many fond memories of her and her brother Max walking the 1 ½ miles to school, returning back home for lunch and then walking back to school again. She attended Albuquerque High School and was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady. She lived and worked on the family farm through a trying Great Depression and collected scrap metal and cloth for the war effort during World War II.
After the war, she married Christopher G. Ogaz in 1948; happily married for 71 years until his death in September, 2019. Helen and Chris relocated to Mountain View, California in 1956 and dedicated a lion’s share of their time to raising a family and assisting their church. While raising her family Helen would periodically work as an insurance underwriter in Palo Alto and Mountain View to help support her growing family. Helen has been a Parishioner at St. Joseph’s church for 56 years where she served in several parish ministries over the years and helped out at the school.
Helen is survived by four children Michael, Elizabeth, Phillip, and Gerald and seven grandchildren.
A private mass and funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers or other donations please make a donation to the America Needs Fatima Organization.
