Ron was born in Sacramento, CA where he attended Crocker, Cal, and McClatchy schools. After high school Ron entered the Marine Corp. He served the bulk of his military service at Subic Bay, Philippines achieving the meritorious distinctions of Mortarman and Rifle Sharpshooter. Ron was very gifted as a painter. All his life he painted. His best works were cityscapes of Santa Cruz and Palo Alto along with individuals from the Stanford Women’s basketball team. He worked various jobs throughout his life in service industries and picture framing shops. An odd and imaginative sense of humor went well with his bright red hair. His long term memory of seemingly insignificant details was legendary Ron was preceded in death by his Mother Joan and Father George. He is survived by his siblings Nancy, Scott, Gary and Jim. Lucy was an aspiring writer, amazing student, and even better friend. She lifted everyone around her with her positivity and humor. Lucy Louise Lunt, 15, of Menlo Park, CA, passed away at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital on Saturday, November 18, 2023, of complications relating to her neuromuscular disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type I. Lucy was born in Redwood City in 2008 to Chad Terrance Lunt and Cherisse Titaua Lunt. Lucy is the light of their lives and taught them so much about faith, love, service, and unity. As a result of her medical condition, Lucy was cared for night and day by her parents and nurses. The care and service to Lucy was a joy as she lived gratefully and graciously and was so sweet to everyone. Lucy excelled in school, starting the Disabilities Awareness Club at Menlo Atherton High School, and attended “on pure adrenaline” due to her excitement for learning and being by her peers and school staff. Lynn Porter, a longtime resident of Menlo Park, passed away November 13th from heart complications. From an early start volunteering at Stanford Hospital she continued working in the medical field, shifting from Stanford’s ER to paralegal work with a San Francisco law firm. In 1994 she changed course and became owner of Home & Garden & Kids too! on Santa Cruz Ave. Lynn enjoyed providing a personal touch for her customers, with many returning with their children and grandchildren.  Lynn enjoyed breakfast at Ann’s Coffee Shop, rooting for the 49ers, playing in her garden and being in the company of her friends. It was her family and friends who brought her love, laughter and support. She is survived by twin sisters Pat (Gary) Hedden and Joan (Peter) Carpenter and their families - Hilary Hedden (Claudio Martonffy), David (Laura) Hedden, Jill (Brian) Davidson and grand nephews and nieces James, Stella, Luca and Sierra Rose. She was class valedictorian of Barringer High School in Newark, New Jersey. Maria went on to graduate with honors from Smith College. She pursued a Master’s Degree in zoology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, followed by studies at the Woman’s Medical College of Philadelphia and the University of Michigan Medical School, where she earned her M.D. with a specialization in surgery. Throughout her career, she taught, conducted research, and led surgery at prominent medical centers in Michigan, Colorado, Maryland, and California, including Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose....

Frances K. Dias passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa, California on November 9, 2023; she was 100 years old. Frances was born to Frank and Rosalie Kracha in Two Rivers, WI on June 15, 1923. She leaves behind three daughters Marianne Dias, Therese Tierney, and Perri Kimono, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Frances graduated from New Trier High School, Wilmette, IL, before attending the University of Colorado, followed by graduate studies at the University of California Berkeley and later the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. Frances’ life was devoted to public service. As the first woman mayor of Palo Alto in 1966, she was an active member of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and Bay Conservation & Development Commission (BCDC) where she championed environmental protections. Working toward greater understanding among nations, she was in the forefront of the Neighbors Abroad Program and established Palo Alto’s sister city of Oaxaca. Dieter Folta was a long time resident of Palo Alto. During Covid, he moved to Berlin to a Senior Residence. He passed away on November 7, just three weeks shy of his 80th birthday. He dealt with Multiple Sclerosis for many years and he was often accompanied any his dog, Koda. One of his favorite haunts was Douce France. He had many friends both near and far. Charles William Bradley

Charles William Bradley ("Charlie" or "Chuck") died peacefully on November 4, 2023 after a rapid decline from metastatic cancer. He was a devoted father, caring friend, tennis enthusiast, and teller of corny jokes. Born on February 4, 1937 in Estes Park, CO, Charlie was raised in a working class neighborhood of St. Louis, MO with his younger brother Harry by their parents Donna Clark Bradley and Stephen Kemp Bradley, Jr. His paternal grandmother, a Unitarian minister, was also an important figure in his upbringing. Charlie volunteered for the Air Force Reserves and was called to active duty in Europe during the Berlin Crisis of 1961-62. He enjoyed this chance to see the world outside the limited scope of his hometown. Charlie graduated from Santa Clara University in 1969 and worked in sales and consulting in the computer industry for many years. In 1985, he published the book, “The Manager’s Guide to Small Business Computers.” A job with Syntex had brought him to California, where he met Shannon Close. During the magical hours between October 31st and November 1st, while the veil was at its thinnest, our beautiful mother, Susan Joan Barnhill Moore of Palo Alto, CA, passed peacefully in her sleep. Susan was born January 14, 1952, in Paducah, Kentucky to James Edward Barnhill and Katherine Wood (Barnhill). She was the youngest of seven children. Susan moved to Sunnyvale, CA as a teenager and met her first husband, Robert Renfro, in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. She was a proud flower child and “not a hippie” as she would be sure to correct anyone who called her one. They moved to Los Angeles, married, and had two daughters, Tabitha and Rebecca. Susan moved with her girls back to Sunnyvale after divorcing their father. Soon afterwards, she and the girls were in a major car accident and though severely injured, she began her recovery, relearning how to walk and talk, a testament to her determination and resilience. While still recovering, she enrolled at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA where she would meet Michael Moore, her life partner of almost 50 years, and earn her Associate Degree in Recreational Therapy. Eleanor Rose Eisner

Eleanor Rose Eisner (“Ellie”) died peacefully in her apartment at the Vi of Palo Alto at age 86 on October 26th, 2023, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her children in her last hours. Ellie was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 12th, 1937 to Isidore “Izzy” Rose and Iva Sachs. Ellie attended South Shore High School and was active in her synagogue youth group, serving as President of her chapter. She met the love of her life, Elliot Eisner, at a Jewish Federation summer camp and the two were married on January 6th, 1957. She and Elliot, along with their two young children, relocated to Palo Alto from Chicago in 1965, when Elliot accepted an offer of an Assistant Professorship at Stanford University. In 1968, they moved into a beautiful house on the Stanford campus which Ellie and Elliot had helped design. Ellie remained in her beloved house until 2014, then moving into the Vi after Elliot’s death the preceding year. Ellie was a caretaker at heart, whether it be family, friends or those less fortunate. Don Garz, age 84 passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Merced, CA, October 22, 2023. Don Garz was born November 11, 1938, in Superior, WI to Bill and Marian Garz. He grew up near the Fish Creek in Orienta and Kinney Valley in Port Wing, WI. Don graduated from South Shore High School, Port Wing, WI, class of 1956. While in high school he participated in athletics and was especially proud of being a member of Mr. Brault’s Circus performers, where rings were his specialty. After graduation Don worked in construction and in commercial fishing. During this time, he trained to become an ABS Technician. Shortly after this he moved to Merced, CA. He worked for several ranchers in the area. He also continued his regular job as an ABS Technician. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Virginia, and in 1962 welcomed their son Steven. Don and Virginia were married for 62 loving years. Later they moved to Palo Alto, CA and Don started working for ‘Ma Bell’ (AT@T) as a lineman. Dr. John H. Borghi passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at age 86. Born in Weehawken, NJ in 1937, “The Doc” or “Sonny” as he was affectionately known grew up in Englewood, NJ. He attended the colleges of Washington & Lee and William & Mary. After a brief stint in Vietnam with the Air Force, John earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Arizona, and in 1967 was licensed as a Psychologist in the State of California. John taught as a Professor at San Jose State University for many years before going into private practice. He was also a proud Forensic Examiner for the Superior Court of California. As a longtime Bay Area resident, John was a die-hard 49er, Giants, and Sharks Fan. In his free time, you could catch him watching his teams either at the game or on TV. John loved to travel to Europe, Mexico, and even made a trip to Kenya. He was an opera aficionado, lover of fine foods, and had a wicked sense of humor. Armond Rex Bigler

Rex, as he was affectionately known to all who met him, was born in 1929 in eastern Idaho to Grace Thomas and Armond John “Dick” Bigler. He started school in the same grade as Patsy, his older sister by one year, so they considered each other to be their twin. The family grew, and they were joined by brother Craig and sister Jacci. Rex attended Idaho State College at Pocatello, moving the following year to the University of Utah for his bachelor’s and medical degrees. While working at the University of Utah Hospital, he met his future wife, Karen Senior, when she came in with a broken leg from a skiing accident. After Karen and Rex were married in 1954, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Rex was a resident intern at the Veterans Administration Hospital. It was in Minnesota, where they welcomed their first son, Michael. In 1956, Rex became an active Reserve Officer in the Navy (Lieutenant, Medical Corps) and was stationed in Chincoteague, Virginia for two years, where their second son, John, was born. Patricia Amelia Douglas, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Palo Alto, California, on Aug. 17, 2023, with her family by her side. Pat was born in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, to Raymond Toro and Beatrice Sanchez Toro. Both parents came from large families, with 14 members and 12 members respectively. She was in Honolulu Dec. 7, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor and stayed in a bomb shelter for several days. She and her family moved to Palo Alto when she was 9, in 1946. Pat graduated from Palo Alto Senior High School in 1956 and remained friends with many of her classmates. She went to work for Hewlett-Packard Company 1956, when HP only had about 300 employees, and stayed for more than 10 years. She was part owner of Golden Age Construction for 31 years where she did the accounting and earned her contractors license. She also did interior decorating. Pat worked at Studio D as a designer and instructor teaching her flair for all kinds of decorations and flower arrangements. Customers called her "Mrs. Christmas.” Pat loved the four seasons of the year, always changing her front door wreaths at the beginning of each season and decorating inside to match. ...

 

Joel Alan Wolfberg

Joel Alan Wolfberg was born November 4, 1944 in Berkeley, CA , and died in Palo Alto, CA on July 26th, 2023. He will be remembered for his compassion in helping others, his advocacy for Veterans and his witty sense of humor. A combat Vietnam Veteran and a psychologist, he was able to understand the range of human suffering as well as the range of human possibility. It was not unusual for him to go out at 3 am to give blankets and food to the homeless. He advocated for better treatment of the mentally ill and served on The Behavioral Health Board of Santa Clara County for a number of years. He had many talents in the arts as well – drawing, making furniture, music, writing, and acting. He read a book a week. But the thing that gave him the greatest satisfaction was in being of service to those in need. He will be sorely missed by his sister Nancy Wolfberg, his son Jimmy Wolfberg and family and by his many relatives and friends. Rita Catherine (nee Damiani) Brox, age 103, passed peacefully on July 3, 2023, after living a long, beautiful and joyous life. She was born in Fresno and grew up in Paso Robles, where she met and married the love of her life, Phillip Brox. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family members remember her most for her love of cooking and passing that love to others. Rita worked in the finance department for Redwood City for many years .
