Five suspects nabbed after downtown Palo Alto hit-and-run
On March 17 at around 3:30 p.m., a Palo Alto police officer tried to stop a Volkswagen Touareg on Emerson Street, but the car sped off. It turned left onto Homer Avenue, going the wrong way on the one-way street, and allegedly struck a cyclist, causing her major injuries, police stated in a news release. The Volkswagen did not stop, but instead turned left onto Ramona Street. The driver and four passengers abandoned the car in the 700 block of Ramona, witnesses said, and fled on foot. Two suspects were quickly apprehended in the 300 block of Forest Avenue. Police set up a search perimeter, and shortly after 6 p.m., a police dog found the remaining three suspects hiding in a backyard shed in the 700 block of Waverley Street. They were arrested.
