A 52-year-old man was arrested and three others cited after they were found inside a blue school bus with more than 50 hypodermic needles, meth pipes and several grams of methamphetamine, police said in a statement Wednesday.

Police contacted the four people inside the bus, located on the 700 block of Continental Circle, after it had not moved for more than 72 hours, a violation in the California Vehicle Code. All of the suspects appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine, police said.

A subsequent search of the bus found about 50 used hypodermic needles, methamphetamine pipes, several grams of methamphetamine and needles loaded with suspected methamphetamine.

Other suspected contraband found in the bus include an electronic scale and small empty bags. A pellet gun was found near the needles, police said.

The 52-year-old man, who lived in the bus, was arrested on multiple drug charges including possession of a controlled substance for sale, “furnishing” a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The others present were cited and given notices to appear in court for possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence.

The vehicle, which police described as a converted bus, was impounded by the department.

  1. This bus was parked on Shoreline earlier this week. Very close to Eagle park where kids were playing.

So what is the count now? We have the RV that was busted with a loaded AR-15, rifles, and drugs. Then we have the RV with drugs it where the guy ran after cops with a crowbar. Now we have this meth bus. We also had the YouTube shooter living in her car, and the gang attack at the Crisanto RV Park.

Are we just supposed to accept this and get used to it?

  2. This is thanks to our city council members who refuse to get these RV people out of Mountain View. Vote them all out in November! Our city is becoming the tenderloin.

  3. How will it be proven that the three cited and released aere under the influence of meth? Did the police at keast get blood zamples or admissions? How old were those 3?

  4. – 2 20 somethings sitting outside their RV passing the cannabis pipe back and forth.

    – 1 raggety guy taking something from a parked car that looked very much like a “loaded” syringe and walking back into his rv.

    – 1 shirtless old guy ranting obscenities at some homeless person out the open door of his rv.

These RV are nothing more than glorified tents and the parking lot behind Nob Hill is steadily turning into the new Jungle encampment.

Our City Council owns this issue 100%. Remind them whenever you see them.
My kids can no longer go to that shopping center.

  5. Don’t worry, it won’t be long before everyone who isn’t a techie is priced out anyway.

No barbers, no artists, no one under 35; that seems to be the Mountain View dream.

  6. 72 no parking rule is not being enforced. The rules clearly state that a vehicle cited must be moved 1/2 mile. If the city just enforced the rules and made all the cars, trucks, motor homes and so on move half a mile every time they were cited, the streets would look much different. It wouldn’t take long for convenient free parking/living to become a hassle for most of these people as they play musical chairs with their mobile homes. Sooner or later the issue of RVs parked everywhere must be addressed and the city cant just ignore it forever and pretend it will ever resolve itself; lest this ridiculously expensive place we call home become a drug den you cant walk down the streets in.

  7. >>>These RV are nothing more than glorified tents and the parking lot behind Nob Hill is steadily turning into the new Jungle encampment.

The owners who lease the properties/buildings at the Grant Road Plaza should really do something about this.

The RV people look like a bunch of scumbags…not displaced skilled workers from high-tech.

Their only visible profession is at recycling center.

  8. @Henry – the 72 hr parking rule only requires that the vehicle be moved 1/10th of a mile every 72 hrs. They can simply drive the vehicle around the block and park it back in the same spot. Trust me, I’ve discussed this many times with the police.

The inept subset of city council members (mainly Clark, Rosenberg and Siegel) need to either reinstate the city ordinance that was suspended or create a new one where no vehicles over 6ft can park in these areas. The city is becoming a dump. I plan on voting Rosenberg and Siegel out in November and Clark in Nov 2020. Enough is enough!

  9. How about implementing an RV Tow-Away Zone on various city streets?

The RVs parked along Shoreline from Eagle Park towards California are essentially thumbing their noses at the public and parking at will.

If a strict ‘No RV Parking’ ordinance was in place and various towing companies contracted to haul them away, the RVs would probably start moving ASAP as the citation/towing/storage fees could get very expensive + the RVs also store the personal belongings of these suburban refugees.

All it takes is for MV City Hall to enact these rules. Simple as that.

Unless they are endorsing the proliferation of RV squatters.

  10. I’ve come to the conclusion that the city and police will not do anything about the RV situation our city has.

Unfortunately I must say maybe it’s time the residents (people who pay rent or own a home) of Mountain View show the RV community that we do not want them here!

Let’s take care of the problem ourselves

  11. Oh that blue school bus was parked today at the corner of Terra Bella and Linda Vista. With its history it sure a lovely addition to the neighborhood. And yes it is almost impossible to see down Terra Bella when making a left turn of Linda Vista.
The 72 hour parking limit has to apply to every vehicle.

  12. At least one of our city council members have ridden with the officer in charge of monitoring the RV parking problem. It is time for all of the city council members and city manager to do a ride along so they understand the seriousness of our problem with the people and the RVs that are migrating to Mountain View.

If you are a city council member, have you been on a ride along for a few hours?

  13. Free parking (whether in a parking lot or on the street) = freedom to park an RV.

The only restrictions are ‘No parking between the hours of…postings’, areas with height limitations, or company parking lots that are patrolled by private security.

Other than that, RVs are free to park wherever they wish as long as they are not on your private property (e.g. driveway, front lawn etc.).

It is also permissible to park an RV where there is un-enforced or non-fee based parking (i.e. strip mall parking lots).

As a result, RV owners/dwellers have the latitude to park where they please unless there is a specific city ordinance prohibiting such parking.

There are many transient RV dwellers in Mountain View and Palo Alto due to the various unrestricted parking protocols.

Word is out amongst countless homeless RV owners that these two cities are ideal places to resituate and more will be coming with winter on the horizon. An upscale community provides a far more attractive and safer location to park and live compared to some of the more desolate and crime-infested areas from which many of these RV homeless originated.

With access to SNAP benefits, SSI (if partially disabled), supplemental welfare income + scavenging for recyclables and occasional or f/t panhandling, many will be able to get by and meet their basic living needs.

The RV homeless have now become a highly visible part of our community and whether you choose to accept or disdain them is strictly up to you.

It has become increasingly apparent that they could care less.

  14. “These RV are nothing more than glorified tents and the parking lot behind Nob Hill is steadily turning into the new Jungle encampment.”

That is because the parking behind 99 Ranch is too narrow to accomodate my RV.

Parking behind Nob Hill is quiet and convenient for shopping at the mall. We now have a small neighborhood of sorts and welcome newcomers as the parking is not cramped like along Shoreline Boulevard. Everyone has some space.

We also get free wi-fi access from the Posh Bagel and Nob Hill.

Don’t be so mean-spirited. It’s not like anyone’s parked in front of your house. Besides, you don’t own the parking lot.

  15. @RV & Homeless: so are you saying that if someone does park in front of my house in an RV, that I can be mean? Because that’s exactly what has happened.

  16. @RV & Homeless

What’s mean spirited is taking advantage of hard working tax paying citizens of Mountain View and having a complete disregard for the la and law enforcement.

  17. > @RV & Homeless: so are you saying that if someone does park in front of my house in an RV, that I can be mean? Because that’s exactly what has happened.

Personally speaking, I wouldn’t park in front of your house unless it was situated in a very convenient location for my personal needs. On the other hand, if it is a city residential street with no parking restrictions then there’s very little you can do.

What if it was someone you personally knew that parked an RV in front of your house? You would probably be OK with that, right?

    >> @RV & Homeless

What’s mean spirited is taking advantage of hard working tax paying citizens of Mountain View and having a complete disregard for the la and law enforcement.

Not all of you are hard working or pay taxes (just like some of us) and with the possible exception of the blue bus incident, no one is violating any city codes so there are no laws to actively enforce.

Can’t you people just live and let live?

  18. “RV & Homeless”, it’s really sad that you’d come on here and pretend to be someone down on their luck in order to push your opinions, but nothing really shocks me from the “get out poors” contingent anymore. What would your mother think if you told her what you were posting?

  19. If this issue was on the ballot it would already be solved.
Not “get out poors”, but get out open air drug users. There’s a huge difference. Helping them into an area where there RVs will be safe and welcome is hardly “Get out”, again, there’s a huge difference.

  20. “Unfortunately I must say maybe it’s time the residents (people who pay rent or own a home) of Mountain View show the RV community that we do not want them here!

Let’s take care of the problem ourselves”

    ^^^^^ What are your suggestions?

    (a) A MV homeowners/renters protest on the steps of City Hall?

    (b) Verbally accosting these RV dwellers upon sight?

    (c) Posting various signs on our front lawns expressing our contempt & disapproval of homeless RV parking?

    (d) Boycotting the stores that have homeless RVs in their parking lots?

    (e) Surrounding the RV residents & marching with signs protesting their existence?

    (f) all of the above?

Whatever route taken, it has to be non-violent & non-destructive…or we become lawbreakers ourselves.

Time to organize. Who wants to be the leader?

  21. It’s the fault of our city council that the residents are not forced to take actions themselves. They are 100% to blame for their foot dragging and kicking of this can down the road. This is easily one of the top 5 issues MV residents have and the council has ignored it entirely.
    SHAME!

I truly hope the residents who take action will not let anger and frustration guide their actions as we PLEAD with the city council to quit hiding and do the job you were elected to do.

  22. Are these some of the long term Mountain View residents who’ve been displaced by the housing crisis, as the RV defenders on here would like us to believe?

This city is being had and it’s turning into a shanty town. City council was waiting on Lots of Love to solve its problems, and despite its good intentions, the program is no match for the issues this city has wrought via its nonenforcement of parking laws. We’ve welcomed in outsiders to take advantage of us and drugs and crime are the outcomes (see the March, 2018 Council meeting in which the Police chief cited a 16x arrest rate among vehicle dwellers vs. general population). Time for city council to step up and enforce the law or we should vote them out in November.

  23. Mountain View City Council Elections are coming, if you are not registered to vote, register NOW, if you don’t vote your opinion does not count. Also if you are registered and have had address change, name change or change of party you need to re-register…. http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/

Pass the word to your neighbors, friends and kids 18+…EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE

  24. I am tired of the different buses and motorhomes that park on Linda Vista, when I try and make a left on to Terra Bella it so hard to see past them especially when they park at the corner. I think there will be an accident waiting to happen.

  25. Thank you for all your comments. I was looking for the folks who blame every problem on the undocumented.

Jim Neal where are you and your friends?

  26. As someone else commented, be sure to register to vote and vote. Mountain View City Council have 3 seats for this election.

In the mean time, email the city council, city manager, chief of police to voice your concerns/opinions.

  27. Most of the posted comments I see for this article are from so-called concerned residents. You people are only concerned with stepping on the lower class by trying to mis-place those who have already been misplaced. Homelessness wouldn’t be an issue if affordable housing was prioritized properly by those who have the power to put a solution in place. These “RV dwellers” are simply just people many of whom are families of residents of Mmountain View who have fell victim to the cost of living increases brought on by Google and the tech boom. Guess what techies those people you are complaining about are the ones who lived where you do before you did. So you tech workers actually are a route cause of what you are having issues with because your salary allows for high cost demand for housing. Google and othe r tech companies fuel this issue with no contribution towards a solution for those being mis-placed.

  28. The article is mostly about some meth addicts. We don’t need housing for meth addicts. They need to get off the meth. What can the public or city do to help meth addicts get off meth? What do you propose?

  29. True this article is mostly about meth addicts. However, Just because they are addicted to a drug does not seem them a lost cause. Those of you who associate meth with the RV dwellers are wrong. To assume that meth, crime and poor people are associated is proof of how narrow minded you are. Not everyone living in vehicles or on the streets are involved with meth, crime or any other drugs. They are just human beings trying to make it in a greed consumed city. I guarantee that most of those who are struggling aren’t on drugs and don’t commit crime. People like yourself could care less about drug addiction which you associate to the poor and misplaced just because you don’t like the fact that lower class people are in your community. So you use articles such as this one to throw dirt on the ones whom you dislike because of their living situation and how close they reside to you. Instead of seeing the good in people or understanding the struggles those people face in their situation you would rather dwell on negativity and associate the poor with drugs and crime. People who think this way are a shame to have in any community.
