Power outage affects 5,000-plus in MV

Power expected to be restored to most by 6 p.m., PG&E rep says

As many as many as 5,500 PG&E customers had their power knocked out in Mountain View this afternoon, Nov. 11, a utility spokesman said.

The power outage was reported around 3 p.m. when a wire went down on the north side of Central Expressway near North Rengstorff Avenue, spokeswoman J.D. Guidi said.

At least 5,500 customers were initially affected. Around 4 p.m. all but 580 customers had power restored, Guidi said.

Power is expected to be restored to all but a handful of customers by 5:45 p.m., Guidi said.

Mountain View police said via Twitter that traffic lights were out because of the outage.

Seems like power has been out more than usual the last 6 months (when the weather is not an issue). A while back I had two messages from PG&E about an outage that day, but no outage until the next day plus the day after. Spending a lot of time resetting clocks lately.

And just a reminder...
When the traffic signals aren't working, it's a 4-Way STOP sign. Not a yield or a go like h3ll 'cause it ain't a red signal.
And you can go after you come to a complete stop. May be a looooonnnngggg time for the green to light up.

MV had a brownout in a different area (I'm on Rich Avenue by El Monte/ECR) from 8 pm to maybe 10. It was a major concern to my appliances which kept switching on/off. Finally powered down on everything and turned in early.
