Caltrain wants input on new ticket machines

Caltrain riders are being asked for their opinions in an online survey the agency will use to improve features on its ticket vending machines.

The survey, which can be found on the Caltrain website at, is the first step in a process to replace the current machines, Caltrain officials said.

Features being considered include providing riders with the ability to load Clipper cards, and giving change in paper bills instead of coins.

Once the desired features are identified, the next step in the process is to develop a funding plan, according to Caltrain.

New ticket vending machines are expected to be in place sometime in 2015 or 2016, replacing the 104 current machines at 31 stations, Caltrain officials said.

Caltrain is also looking into technology that would allow riders to buy tickets on their mobile devices.

Put the machines on the train. The current system is a joke. People waiting in line to buy a ticket from a balky machine, while the train pulls away without them...

Someone needs to send the entire Joint Powers Board on a trip to Europe so they can see what actually works and makes sense.....

Just get a Clipper card and forget the ticket machines. Paper tickets are so 20th century.

Allow payment by touch/RFid. Many times the payment would take many swipes before ultimately being processed.

clipper cards and touch screens are topics included in the survey.
I like the idea of being able to use the ticket machines to "recharge" your clipper card when its low.
Take the survey.(Posting what you want here in this forum will produce zero results.)
