San Bruno Wins Food Trend Craze with First Plant-Based Gas Mart

Uploaded: Sep 24, 2022

We interrupt our regularly scheduled program to bring you something super fun from the hood.

Has anyone been here?
1199 El Camino Real, San Bruno

OMG I was looking for gas off 280/380 when a Putin-eating dinosaur jumps out of nowhere - El Camino Real at Sneath Lane, across from Chase.

Turns out this station has got a hellava lot more than gas and shriveled hotdogs rounding metal rollers. Fellow citizens, meet the future! Introducing The Hangry Planet – North America’s first plant-based mart.

A Shell station with affordable gas (that's newsworthy in itself) offering a free soft serve cone made from oat milk with every fillup!

All the same crappy gas station food, just a little less crappy and 100% veg. Organic potato chips and faux-egg breakfast sandwiches in a hot box.

Vegan buffalo wings and "chicken" taquitos in the freezer.

Or maybe it’s jerky you’re craving?

Even the car wash has soul.

Don’t forget your free ice cream on the way out. :)

Interesting concept...my 'go to' lunch at gas stations & convenience stores is always Frito Pie, a southwestern favorite.

You buy a bag of Fritos, tear it open in front and pour some chili over the top of the chips. Grab a plastic spoon and you are set to go.

It's not exactly gourmet fare and the chili is usually that sodium-laden Hormel stuff but it tastes great washed down with a cold beer.

When I'm in the mood for a simple plant-based lunch I simply go to Safeway and buy a head of iceberg lettuce and a bottle of ranch or thousand island dressing.

After rinsing and removing the center core of the lettuce head, I drizzle in the salad dressing and eat the lettuce head in large bites.
