Relay for Life, Menlo Park, August 8

Uploaded: Jul 3, 2015
The information below comes from the Relay for Life website.

Having had Mom die recently from cancer, this is of special interest to me. My husband and I went to the Campbell Relay for Life yesterday. It was very touching, emotional, and wonderful, all at the same time. I cried about Mom some, laughed with the team we supported, listened to great bands, walked the track, and donated to the American Cancer Society.

These are wonderful community events, and I will definitely go again.

Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk for cancer research.

?Teams of people camp out around a track
?Members of each team take turns walking around the track
?Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie
?Family-friendly environment for the entire community

Because it's a team event, individual participants are not required to be there the entire time. But it's so much fun, you'll find it hard to leave!

Survivors Lap

During the Survivors Lap, all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while cheered on by the other participants who line the track. Relay For Life events also recognize and celebrate caregivers, who give time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer.

Luminaria Ceremony

The Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark, so we can remember people we have lost to cancer, honor people who have fought cancer in the past, and support those whose fight continues. Candles are lit inside of personalized bags and are placed around the Relay track as glowing tributes to those who've been affected by cancer.

The Menlo Park Relay is on August 8 at Burgess Park.

There are Relays all over Silicon Valley, including:
- Belmont, Carlmont High School on July 18, 2015
- Newark Memorial High School on July 18, 2015
- Cupertino High School on July 18, 2015
- Half Moon Bay High School on July 25, 2015
- Saratoga, St Andrews Field on July 25, 2015
- San Mateo, Central Park on August 1, 2015

For more information, see the American Cancer Society Website's Relay for Life information.
