Several weeks ago I wrote an article on New York City college tours. In case you missed part one, click here. As promised, here is part two.
New York University
Looking for an urban college with over 40,000 students globally? Look no further than New York University, the largest private research university in the country. NYU's main campus is located in Greenwich Village in Manhattan but there are multiple campuses throughout the city and worldwide. According to NYU's website, entering freshman had a high school average GPA of 3.5 and between 1910-2150 on the SAT or 28 to 32 on the ACT. 17% of the freshman were the first in their family to attend college and 84% of freshman will graduate in 6 years.
Undergraduate students can choose from over 2,500 undergraduate courses in 25 majors. More popular majors tend to be Visual and Performing Arts, Social Sciences and Business/Marketing, but there is a fit for every student's academic needs.
If you are interested in Engineering and have a competitive profile (transcripts, test scores, etc.) you should research NYU's Polytechnic School of Engineering. Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest private schools of engineering and technology was acquired by NYU effective January 1, 2014.
Dormitory housing is offered to freshman and students have vast opportunities to get involved on campus with over 400 clubs and organizations, Division III sports, cultural events on and off campus and social activities within the residence halls.
The Wasserman Career Development Center offers three locations to NYU students to help them research and find internships and jobs off campus to gain experiential learning. Additionally, students can gain interviewing and networking skills, resume and cover letter development, and explore majors and careers at their career centers.

Baruch College, City University of New York
First, a brief description of the CUNY and the SUNY colleges.
The State University of New York, SUNY, is composed of 64 campuses including universities, colleges, and community and technical colleges. The campuses are located across the state and can be found in every geographic area from rural to urban. For more about SUNY schools and how to apply visit: www.suny.edu
The City University of New York, CUNY, is composed of 23 campuses in all five boroughs. Campuses include universities, colleges, and community and technical colleges. For more about CUNY schools and how to apply visit: www.cuny.edu
Baruch College is located in Park Avenue South area of Manhattan. There are 14,000 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate students attending this campus. Undergraduate students can choose from 35 majors and 93 minors within the college's three schools: The Zicklin School of Business, The Weissman College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Affairs. Rated one of U.S. News and World Report's Top 60 Business Schools, Baruch's Zicklin School of Business is the largest accredited collegiate school of business in the country, offering 13 concentrations.

(sorry for the blurry iPhone picture!)
Baruch has many notable rankings, of which you can find here. These ranking range from being recognized as a top college for entrepreneurship, to being ethnically diverse, to "best bang for your buck" college.
The average freshman profile is a 3.4 high school GPA, 1290 SAT (Critical Reading/Math) or between a 26-28 ACT composite score. They also accept transfer students.
Similar to other campuses I visited in NYC, residential housing is offered to students who are attending full time. Residential Housing offers a variety of activities to engage students on and off campus. Students that I spoke with felt very connected to their campus, in spite being spread across city blocks. Additionally, Baruch's Office of Student Life offers over 160 clubs and organizations, as well as 13 Division III sports. Sorry, no Lacrosse if you are interested in that.
The surrounding neighborhood had no shortage of walkable shops and restaurants and the campus felt more inclusive to me than some of the larger campuses I visited.

New York Institute of Technology
NYIT has 13,000 students on campuses in North America, China, the Middle East, and online. NYIT's five schools and two colleges have a strong emphasis on technology and applied scientific research. The university has two New York campuses, one in Old Westbury Long Island and one near Columbus Circle in Manhattan, as well as several global campuses.
With over 90 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 50 fields of study, NYIT is a clear choice for many students. I visited the Manhattan campus which only has about 2,500 students. But even though the campus is small, it still offered everything a college student is looking for in their college experience. They offer Greek Life, various academic and social clubs and organizations, residential housing, academic support services (free tutoring!), career development center, computer labs, a library that rents books, laptops and calculators, and dining commons. Engineering is the most popular major at the Manhattan campus. Other popular majors include Architecture and Computer Science.

On my tour, a transfer student from Georgia Tech, was interested in Electrical Engineering. He wanted to transfer to NYIT because of the hands-on cutting edge experience he would gain. During the tour, the guide introduced him to the Dean of the department. They exchanged contact information and he let the transfer student "play" in the lab for a few minutes while we explored the rest of the department. Needless to say, that student was excited to apply to NYIT.
Another added bonus for NYIT students is their flexible schedule. Courses are available in the day and evening so students who need to work or intern during the day can still take courses in the evening. Architecture students have special privileges that allows 24/7 access to their lab so they can work on their projects.
