About this blog: My wife and I moved to Mountain View in 2009, buying our house alongside Middlefield Road the same week as our third child was born. Since then, our two boys have grown up into public elementary school children, and our daughter is expected to follow them into kindergarten next year. My wife and I are both involved in our district public school, Stevenson PACT, and I've taken a keen interest in district-level activities such as the Measure C Parcel Tax Oversight Committee and the Measure G Bond Oversight Committee. I'm interested in learning more about ways to improve kids' educational experiences and outcomes, whether at home or at school. I am also always looking for interesting things to teach my own children at home, from electronics to foreign languages and beyond, and sharing these findings with other interested parents. My own educational background is Catholic primary and secondary schools in Orange County, Southern California, then Cornell University, where I met my wife, and also earned a B.S. in Applied and Engineering Physics and a B.A. in Computer Science. My formal education (has thus far) ended with an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Earlier this year, several members of the MVWSD board of trustees began working towards establishing a "facilities committee". Such a committee would consist of members of the community, including parents of students in district schools, as well as other members of the Mountain View school district community.
At the August 22nd board meeting, the trustees deliberated on the bylaws for such a committee, and voted to create a board facilities committee. The video from that section of the meeting
is available here.
At the October 3rd board meeting, the trustees reviewed the 11 applications from community members interested in volunteering to be on the facilities committee. The video for the discussion of applicants
is available here.
The stated purpose of the Board Facilities Committee (BFC) is: "to provide an open public forum whereby the community can be informed of and participate in the Measure G facilities construction process at MVWSD middle and elementary school facilities."
The district's website for this new committee
can be found here.
In late October, the first committee meeting took place. The new committee members had a chance to meet each other, as well as the President and Vice-President of the Board, and the Superintendent. The 11 members of this committee are (in alphabetical order):
Greg Coladonato
Peter Darrah
Natasza Dominiczak
Andy Kirby
Julie Muir
Patrick Neschleba
Dan Norwood
Steve Olson
Jim Pollart
Marcin Romanszewicz
Connie Strong
During the meeting, Jim Pollart was elected Chair, Andy Kirby was elected Vice-Chair, and I was elected Secretary.
The brief self-introductions given by each member of the committee, as well as much of the discussion that took place, is available in the
draft meeting minutes, available here.
The next meeting of the Board Facilities Committee is scheduled for 7:30 PM on December 17th, in the District Boardroom at 750-A San Pierre Way, in Mountain View.
I will share the agenda for the next meeting in a future blog post, once it is published.
We hope to see you there!
