The Voice solutes five new local Eagle Scouts, of Los Altos Troop 30, who received honors for their commitment to leadership and community service at a ceremony March 21 in Los Altos.

Zachary Baumgartner, a senior at Mountain View High School, completed construction of storage cabinets and made improvements to a storage shed used by the choral department at the school. Baumgartner is a member of the Madrigals Choir.

Chris Smoot, also a Mountain View high senior, completed construction on two seven-foot-long storage benches for American Legion. Smoot has been scouting since 2003, and has worked as a lifeguard at Eagle Pool.

Los Altos High School senior Sahil Luthra began his scouting career in Massachusetts as a first grader. His Eagle Scout project involved creating a bilingual Web site for Edison McNair School in East Palo Alto. Luthra serves as the editor-in-chief of the Talon at LAHS.

Mark Jeffrey Lee, a Los Altos resident and senior at Homestead high built a 12 foot tall storage shed for use by the music department at his school for his Eagle Scout project. He is an active member in the marching band, jazz band and wind ensemble.

Fellow Homestead High School senior Nathan Tolley planned and constructed 13 bookcases and six planter boxes for use at Montclaire Elementary School. Outside of scouting, Tolley is a member of the Japanese Honor Society and his school's film club.

Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
