A pair of burglars apparently tried to steal a washing machine from the laundry room of an apartment complex at 134 W. Dana St. earlier this week.
The apartment complex’s manager was called by a tenant shortly before noon on Sept. 15 and told that two men were trying to make off with one of the clothes washers, according to Sean Thompson, public information officer with the Mountain View Police Department.
The tenant heard a loud banging noise coming from the laundry room, Thompson said. When the tenant went to investigate, he saw two men wearing hooded sweatshirts with the machine halfway out the laundry room door.
When the men saw they had been spotted, they dropped what they were doing, ran to a dark-colored pickup truck parked nearby and sped away, Thompson said.
Police discovered evidence that the men had forced their way into the laundry room, Thompson said. The only description the witness provided police was that the men were tall.
So what the street price for a used washing machine?
Good question — you would think it would be a bit, eh, difficult to fence a washing machine…
Odd crime. Maybe college kids trying to furnish their new place?
I would think this was going to be used, not sold, but who knows. Crackheads can come up with funny ideas sometimes.
Coin op washers cost more then you think (appliance salesman) $899 new probably $500 used. …..still not worth the charge though
Burglars try to steal washing machine, but no hope for a “clean” getaway. 🙂
