Mountain View firefighters will be providing holiday meals to senior citizens on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Mountain View Senior Center located at 265 Escuela Ave. from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Firefighters from Local 1965 will be give away holiday meals to over 400 elderly people served by the Second Harvest Food Bank's Brown Bag program.
The Brown Bag program was started by the Second Harvest Food Bank and provides weekly groceries to people over age 60, or disabled people age 55 and above. Second Harvest serves more than 20,000 older adults each month through its Brown Bag program and other food-assistance programs, said Second Harvest spokeswoman Caitlin Kerk.
The food bags will include traditional items to make up a holiday meal, including a turkey roll.
This is the sixth annual holiday food bag donation by the firefighters. It's funded by all the members of Local 1965, through their Create a Smile Fund to contribute to those in need. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
