Clucking over books

Castro students are no chickens when it comes to books. They egged on Castro School Principal Judy Crates as she bucked convention on Monday, Oct. 29, dressed in a chicken suit. Crates cavorted to the delight her pupils, leading them in the chicken dance and handing out plastic eggs. Castro School, home of the district's dual immersion Spanish program, is on an upward trajectory, with rising test scores. Students competed against other Mountain View Whisman schools to read the most books over the summer break, and Castro won for the second year in a row. Last year, they earned a visit from Crates who delivered bananas while dressed as a gorilla.

There goes Crates again, hoggin' the spotlight. She has never taught my kids to read, the TEACHERS have!

They should have told the Castro students that there is also no chickens when it comes to drive throughs. Cluck cluck.

Before the spell check police correct me. I meant to spell it as 'drive-thru' not 'through'.

@C-f-h: Yes. With your correction it is much more funny and people don't think nearly as bad of you for trying to hijack the posts. Just think how hilarious it will be when you correct the phrase "there is also no chickens"

It will be GOLD!

Dear Parent -

Of course, Dr. Crates did not personally teach "your children" to read but she has provided the leadership needed at Castro for academic excellence. And, she is to be admired, not criticized, for being willing to "dress up" and inspire the students and staff!!!

It was a magical afternoon with incredible spirit by the whole school...teachers, students, and parents who came out to celebrate a love of reading for the kids and academic performance continuing on the rise. A rollicking round of the Chicken Dance with 600 celebrating friends was "good for the soul!" :)

@Banyon - see, I knew the grammar police would show up. Thanks for not disappointing me.
