Police believe two teenage boys are responsible for setting a pair of fires inside of a garbage can and a recycling can at Eagle Park in the 600 block of Franklin Street on June 6.

According to Mountain View police spokeswoman Liz Wylie, an officer on patrol came upon the first fire in a recycling can near the the park's playground and bathrooms at about 11:15 p.m. He put the fire out with a fire extinguisher he had in his squad car.

Firefighters, who arrived after the officer spotted the first fire, found another small blaze in a trash can in the northeast corner of the park, which they put out, Wylie said.

One witness saw two boys who were standing near the recycling bin before the fire started and ran away from the blaze afterward, Wylie said. One of the boys was described as a white male, about 14 years old, with shoulder-length blond hair; the other boy was only described as a youth wearing a white shirt. Both were last seen running north toward Church Street.
