Guest Opinion: Renters deserve some protections
I'm one of the fortunate minority in the city: I own my house. My wife and I moved to Mountain View in 1998 and in the interim period we have managed to pay off our mortgage. In that same period, our townhouse has increased in value by a few multiples of what we bought it for, due to no effort on my part. I am indeed fortunate.

Standoff triggers lockdown in Slater neighborhood
Mountain View police arrested a man last week after he allegedly refused to leave a home on Gladys Avenue, and threatened a resident with what appeared to be a firearm. The standoff lasted more than two hours, and ended after police fired a beanbag round and used a stun gun on the suspect in order to apprehend him outside the home.
