Woman breaks bottle over attacker's head

Man arrested on attempted rape charge on Valentine's Day

A Santa Cruz woman was able to escape an alleged sexual assault by breaking a bottle over her attacker's head, according to police.

The attack occurred on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, on the 300 block of Hope Street, according to Sgt. Saul Jaeger, public information officer with the Mountain View Police Department.

The 20-year-old woman and the 37-year-old suspect had been introduced through a friend earlier that day and the three of them spent the early evening "drinking heavily," Jaeger said. At one point, the woman and man were left alone. That's when he allegedly made unwanted sexual advances -- groping her and exposing himself.

She got away after she smashed a beer bottle over the man's head, Jaeger said. This angered the man, who allegedly retaliated by punching her in the face multiple times.

The woman called 911 and police arrested Francisco Urbano on charges of attempted rape. He was booked into Main Jail in San Jose.

I have been drinking beer for more than 30 years and so far have been able to avoid raping anyone.

Responsibility is with the rapist not the situation or what the woman was wearing.

"setup"? No. It sounds like drunk people. They were right to arrest him. It is up to his lawyer to prove somehow he was not at fault.

Sounds like your typical "sexually entitled" male who sees a great oppty when a female is under the influence of whatever and likely unable to defend herself... e.g. rape as a sporting event for a skuzzy dishonorable putz. Only this time he was wrong. Good for her.

BTW "Hmm" when a woman says "NO" at any point ... she means "NO!" and that means STOP period... otherwise it's rape. "egged him on?" yeeaaah riiight.

Hey USA: thanks for the best statement on this blog. You're the sort of male I choose for friendship cuz you are a grown-up. Thanks for giving me a smile and a warm heart.

good, the woman escaped. Another proof that alcohol impairs brain after certain quantity. Evne though there is nothing illegal in a 20 yr old spending time with someone who is 37, it just doesn't seem like a wise thing to do and especially drinking heavily is even worse. I wonder what the story would be if the three have been smoking weed. Weed is worse than alcohol when it comes to buzz and impairing brain.

I guess the editors of MVV agree that males are typically sexually entitled. I wish they'd provide the list of rude comments we can make about each segment of society, that way we can make sure we only use the approved slurs and insults towards certain parts of society.
