Cisco gives $51K to city nonprofits
Cisco Systems recently announced a new round of San Jose Impact Grants, doling out a total of $765,000 to 66 Bay Area nonprofit organizations, including four in Mountain View.
Mountain View's Community Health Awareness Council, Community School of Music and Arts, Springboard Forward and The Support Network for Battered Women will all benefit from the grants. The Community Health Awareness Council, which works to reduce high-risk behaviors in students, was awarded the most at $15,000 -- enough to serve 255 students.
The Community School of Music and Arts, which provides professional artists-in-residence to underserved schools, was granted $6,000. Springboard Forward, which trains volunteer job coaches for entry level workers, was granted $15,000; and The Support Network for Battered Women, which educates students about the warning signs of dating violence and offers assistance and resources for battered women, received $15,000.

Lemonade stand benefits local CSA
Mountain View's Community Services Agency, which benefits needy residents in Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, recently received an unusual donation to their Grove Foundation's Challenge Grant. The $37 check was the proceeds from a neighborhood lemonade stand and bake sale, in which 14 children from eight different families took part.
The children, with parental assistance from Frances Mueller and her husband, sold lemonade, backyard produce, baked goods and toys to raise money for the Grove Foundation Challenge Grant. All donations to the Community Services Agency received by Sept. 1 will be doubled by the Grove Foundation. Checks can be made payable to Community Services Agency/Challenge Grant and mailed to 204 Stierlin Road, Mountain View, CA 94043.
